Bears' Strange Draft Tactic to Decide on No. 9 Pick Might Just Work

The Chicago Bears own two picks in the top nine selections of the 2024 NFL Draft. It seems like a lock that the Bears will select Caleb Williams with the first overall pick but there are decisions to make regarding the No. 9 overall pick.

We are four weeks away from the draft so the Bears are still finalizing their draft board but they have a unique strategy surrounding the No. 9 pick.

GM Ryan Poles said that Chicago plans on splitting the personnel staff into teams so they can debate what value that certain player would bring over to the Windy City.

This is certainly a strange approach but could work out in their favor long term. Having a range of different conversations about multiple different players gives them the opportunity to see who could be the best fit for the team.

"We’re going to do some cool things when we get back, kind of break into teams. One team is going to talk about [why] the tackle position is the best to go after, [why] the receiver’s the best, [why] the defensive end’s the best and use factual information to spit that out — and we’ll have a debate in terms of what’s more impactful for our football team, short-term and long-term."

There will be plenty of blue-chip prospects at that ninth spot so finding out who they believe will be the best choice will take a boatload of various conversations.

Chicago has made a flurry of moves over the offseason and the NFL Draft is next. They aren't getting much love from oddsmakers.
