The Chicago Bears are at the center of the NFL news cycle right now with the uncertainty revolving around them. Chicago's quarterback situation and ultimate decision will decide how this year's draft goes, as the team decides what to do with incumbent Justin Fields and the No. 1 overall pick.

Everyone knows a trade involving Fields is certainly in the cards. In fact, Bears GM Ryan Poles openly talked about the rumors involving his current signal-caller at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday.

Bears Trade News: Ryan Poles Opens Up About Justin Fields

Poles discussed Fields' situation with complete honesty. He noted the team could "go down that road," and said if that's the case, he wants to "do right by Justin." Poles also made it clear he's communicating with the QB's representation to ensure no one is caught by surprise.

Poles' comments are both admirable and telling. It's great to see the GM handling this uneasy time with such care. We've heard numerous times from players or their agents about how front offices led them to believe one thing before blindsiding them by doing another. By being as transparent as possible here, Poles should earn respect around the league.

The fact that Poles is talking so freely about a trade, though, shows how seriously a deal is being considered. Fields' availability has been a poorly kept secret, and Poles revealing how he wants to handle a split indicates the franchise is prepared for that possibility, because he wouldn't contemplate hypotheticals otherwise.

There are some mixed signals coming from Chicago right now, however, with the recent report the team may be leaning toward trading the No. 1 pick instead and keeping Fields for at least one more year.

Whatever route Poles goes, it's abundantly clear draft rumor season is in full swing with the combine underway.
