Free agency is just a few days away and plenty of names are being rumored to different teams. The Bears currently hold the fifth most cap space per Spotrac so are sure to be active in free agency.

On a recent Bears podcast on ESPN 1000, Pat The Designer was joined by former Bears full back Jason McKie to dive into all the recent Bears news including upcoming free agency targets. McKie dropped a minor bombshell when he talked about the "mutual interest" between the Bears and free agent running back Josh Jacobs.

McKie shares the same agent as Jacobs so this is not just a random thought from him. He said he texted his agent saying, "he'd (Jacobs) look great in a Bears uniform." The response he received was a simple one, "hey, there's mutual interest."

Jacobs is coming off of his worst year in the league with only 805 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. However, he was the rushing leader in 2022 where he had 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is still very much productive and the epitome of a three-down back in that he can catch the ball out of the backfield very well.

The fifth year pro is likely to have a big market if he and the Raiders are unable to land on a deal as he is still only 26 years old. Ironically, Jacobs was selected in the first round of the 2019 draft by the Raiders - a pick that was sent over from the Bears in the Khalil Mack trade. Can we have a full circle moment here?

The Bears have three running backs under contract going into next season with Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer. None of these players are at the level Jacobs is, however. He would immediately upgrade the room and provide rookie Caleb Williams with an elite runner to take some pressure off of him.
