3. DeAndre Carter, Wide Receiver/Punt Returner

You can't help but appreciate the Bears' thought process when it came to signing DeAndre Carter.

Throughout his NFL career, Carter has been a really good return specialist and occasionally a viable threat for the offense. He's got 108 career receptions for 1,259 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver. But he's also added a variety of big plays in the return game with over 5,000 return yards (both in the kick and punt return department combined) and one return touchdown.

With the NFL's new kickoff return format, it makes a ton of sense to bring in someone like Carter to compete, even if you already like what you've got in the return game. He has six receiving touchdowns over the last two years, so there's added value in several ways.

Unfortunately, he may not make it out of the preseason with the Bears after what we saw against Buffalo. Even though you feel for Carter, who took a cheap shot from Bills player Kendall Williamson, Carter didn't record a single catch, carry, or punt/kick return in this game against Buffalo.

If you want to make the 53-man roster, you'd better make yourself uncuttable during the preseason. The Bears have plenty of other options at receiver right now, and they aren't hurting for possible return options either. Velus Jones Jr., Josh Blackwell, and Greg Stroman Jr. all got return opportunities in this game for Chicago on top of Carter.

There might be too many bodies out there for the Bears at this point. Carter was added late in the offseason process; and will have to flash in these last two weeks to make it.
