6 Bears Unlikely to Return in 2025 After Poor Start to Season
4. Teven Jenkins & Nate Davis, offensive guard
I said before that the Bears might be looking at a true overhaul of their offensive line, starting at the center position. That is only going to be the beginning. The Bears will need to see improvement from the interior offensive line as the season progresses, or else none of these guys are going to have starting jobs in 2025.
In Chicago or elsewhere.
Let's start off by talking about Nate Davis, a former big-money free agent who has only started two games this season due to injury. He was effectively demoted by the Bears, a slightly shocking yet simultaneously non-surprising development given the way he's played and been unavailable for the team.
Davis was signed by the Bears to a three-year deal worth $30 million, pretty good money for the offensive guard position and certainly an investment by the Bears that was expected to yield much better results than it has so far...
Speaking of getting return on investment, how about the investment of a second-round pick in Teven Jenkins? Jenkins looked like he was going to be a long-term starter for the Bears early on in his career, but injuries have potentially derailed his future impact with the team. Now, it doesn't look like the Bears are going to get a second contract out of Jenkins, who was hurt in the game against the Rams.
And Bears fans noticed that when Jenkins left the game, the offensive line suddenly improved...
Bears general manager Ryan Poles is obviously a former offensive lineman himself, and watching this unit play is something he simply can't stand for and put up with. He's got to make wholesale changes barring a drastic turnaround.
