2. Velus Jones, Jr., Running Back

Third-round pick Velus Jones, Jr. entered the offseason on the hot seat following a slow start to his career. Not all of his struggles are his fault since the Bears were guilty of over-drafting him in 2022. They also threw him into a porous receiving corps meaning he wasn't able to take advantage of defenses focusing on more refined wideouts.

Jones enters his third season with just 127 yards receiving and 154 on the ground. His saving grace has been his skill as a returner but there are other options on the roster, so that might not be enough to save him any longer.

In an effort to salvage his career, the Bears moved him to running back. The results have been mixed but as Alyssa Barbieri of Bears Wire says, the depth there isn't going to help his case.

"Jones is fighting for a roster spot, and performances like his against the Bengals aren't exactly going to help his cause. For the second consecutive week, the Bears continue to experiment with Jones at running back. Unfortunately, Jones didn't replicate his impressive outing from last week's game. He had six carries for just 13 yards, averaging 2.2 yards per carry. While Jones could still very well make the roster given his kickoff return contributions, there's plenty of competition at running back, alongside undrafted rookie Ian Wheeler, and receiver, with Dante Pettis and Collin Johnson." - Alyssa Barbieri

Week 3 of the preseason might be his final chance to prove he deserves one more season with the Bears.
