6 Bears on the Chopping Block After 2024 Minicamp
4. Corliss Waitman, Punter
Anytime you make a substantial investment in the punter position during the NFL Draft, it puts any other players at that position group at risk of losing their jobs, doesn't it?
The Bears have already moved on from former seventh-round pick Trenton Gill this offseason, and it feels like it's only a matter of time until they move on from Corliss Waitman as well. Waitman has spent parts of the last few seasons with the Patriots, Broncos, and Steelers, and is now in a competition with fourth-round pick Tory Taylor.
Taylor is coming to the Bears from the Iowa Hawkeyes program and was considered one of the best special teams weapons in the entire 2024 NFL Draft.
There were times at Iowa that Taylor was truly the team's best offensive weapon, which speaks volumes in a number of different respects.
The Bears know that Taylor is a weapon, which is especially important in the unpredictable conditions of Chicago, Illinois. "The Windy City", as it were. The idea of anyone beating out a fourth-round pick at the punter position is far-fetched at best.
For however long he's on the roster this offseason, Waitman is undoubtedly auditioning his services to the rest of the NFL.
