5 Blackhawks Who Won't Return Next Season

Now that the NHL regular season is over, Chicago Blackhawks fans shouldn't expect to see these five players back on the 2024-25 roster.

5. D Jaycob Megna

Jaycob Megna is another defenseman who's mostly been a non-factor throughout the 2023-24 NHL season.

After beginning the year with the Seattle Kraken, Megna was claimed off waivers by the Blackhawks back in January. His addition to the roster had to do more with Chicago needing a warm body for its injury-riddled lineup rather than his on-ice potential.

Unfortunately, Megna hasn't exactly been a positive contributor. He coughs up the puck twice as many times as he takes it away while boasting an abysmal minus-28 on-ice goal differential. And even though he isn't known as a goal-scorer, the fact that he just had his first goal-less campaign since 2017-18 certainly raises some red flags.

Like Zaitsev and Tinordi, I can't imagine the Blackhawks re-signing the pending UFA defenseman. Megna just turned 31 a few months ago, meaning he likely won't improve going forward. He is who he is at this stage of his career and is more suited to be an AHLer who sees the occasional NHL call-up when injuries pop up.
