5 Bears That Need to be More Involved Ahead of Sunday Night Football
3. D.J. Moore, WR
Moore led the Bears in receiving with only five catches for 36 yards. He only had two games with fewer yards last season. I understand there are many more mouths to feed on the roster now, but he is still their best receiver currently. The best path to winning games is getting the ball in your best player's hands, period. Rome Odunze suffered a knee injury and is likely not going to play this week, so the Bears will need to get Moore the ball to stay competitive in this game.
Keenan Allen seemed to get the majority of the targets as he ended the game with 11. He only caught four of them for 29 yards, however. Williams did miss a deep pass in which he was wide open, but it seemed as though they were forcing the ball to Allen in certain situations. He also dropped a would-be touchdown on a perfect throw from Williams on an out-route at the goal line. Allen is one of the top receivers in football no doubt, but Moore is no slouch on the other side and provides much more after the catch so needs to be looked at more this week.
4. Tyler Scott, WR
As mentioned earlier, Odunze will likely not play this week after suffering a knee injury. This means that Scott should be active after not being so in week one. We still don't really know what the Bears have in Scott due to the small sample size and some missed opportunities.
He is a burner though and can stretch defenses at the very least. He is another guy who had a strong camp and looked to be something of a breakout candidate this season. Velus Jones Jr. is a whole separate five-slide article, but we know he is not contributing much to the receiving corpse. With Odunze sidelined, it is likely Moore, Allen, and Scott will be the Bears' top three receivers on Sunday.
The Texans have a very good cornerback in Derek Stingley Jr., but the depth after that is nothing to be particularly terrified of. Everyone has likely seen the Anthony Richardson highlights from last week, but he was able to beat the Texans deep on multiple occasions. The Texans did not have a cornerback grade in the top 50 after week one according to PFF. The Bears' defense should keep them in many games, but the offense is going to have to step up when the opportunities present themselves and that includes Tyler Scott this week.
