4 Cubs Who Won't Survive the Trade Deadline
3. Ian Happ, OF/DH
Another veteran who the Cubs could ship out of town within the next week is Ian Happ.
Happ, 29, is also in the middle of one of his least productive campaigns, highlighted by a career-worst .237/.345/.453 slash line. Conversely, his bat has still had its fair share of promising moments as he's tallied 16 home runs and 59 RBIs through 96 games. If healthy for a full 162 games, he'd be on pace to set new personal bests in HRs (27) and RBIs (100).
Even if he hasn't been overly consistent at the plate this year, interested suitors can ignore that as long as Happ is still hitting the stitching off a baseball.
The ex-Cincinnati product might not have the most postseason experience, but he's still batting .333 with five hits and a homer in 15 playoff at-bats. The former MLB All-Star also has 932 regular-season games under his belt so it isn't as if he doesn't know his way around a diamond.
Acquiring Happ would also give one of the other 29 MLB teams a long-term option in the outfield. The Pittsburgh, PA native is signed through the 2026 season with an average annual value of $20.3 million, which is a more than fair price for what he brings to the table.
Throw in the fact that he's a switch-hitter who can play everything except catcher and it's easier than ever to see why Happ is one of the Cubs' most attractive trade pieces.
