2. Nate Davis, OG

Davis is in the second year of a 3-year, $30 million dollar deal signed a year ago to be the Bears starting guard. Since then, he has played 11 games as Pro Football Focus’ 69th ranked guard. He’s also faced scrutiny, being accused of not being dedicated to practice while missing much of training camp with an undisclosed injury.

“My focus is just on the building, on the players and our coaching staff and whatever they ask me to do,” Davis said in mid-August, shortly before returning to practice.

There is no room to speculate on baseless accusations, beyond it reflecting how Davis’ time in Chicago has been perceived. With a $12.75 million dead cap hit in play if cut, he’s likely to be given every chance to keep his role. But with the Bears looking to maximize their burgeoning contention window with Williams (and Davis being very cuttable next season) he needs to start strong to quiet the cacophony of concerns about his place on this team.
