The front office might be comfortable with Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien backing up Caleb Williams, but that is just not living in reality.

Bagent and Rypien might be capable of getting the Bears out of a game if something happens to Caleb. Also, let it be clear, let's hope Caleb is healthy and good enough to make all 17 starts.

This is the NFL where quarterbacks take big hits and it is really hard for them to start every game. Bagent was 2-2 as a backup for Justin Fields last season, but those two wins were mostly because the Bears could run the ball and they played the Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders with a washed-up quarterback.

Rypien has four career starts to his name as well. Not exactly a ton of experience backing up a quarterback set to make his first career start in Week 1. Tannehill did throw four touchdowns to seven picks last season, but he has 155 career games under his belt.

The expectations are higher now and a better backup plan should be in place. Tannehill is still on the street and should be better than Bagent and Rypien. He at least has the potential to be like Joe Flacco in case of an emergency whereas Bagent and Rypien having to start games means this season will have a major emergency.
