The Chicago Bears are now the Caleb Williams show, but it's going to take more than just the #1 overall pick in order to get this team back into contention in the NFC North. Training camp and preseason games are all about arriving at the correct 53-man roster, and teams let guys go every single year who go on to have success at other NFL stops.

The Bears are just like any other team in the NFL -- they had to make some difficult roster decisions keeping both the present and future in mind, but are there any players they're going to regret leaving off the 53-man roster?

Even with the idea in mind that any number of these players could return to the Chicago practice squad, let's look at players they might wish they could have back, even if it's only eventually.

1. Brett Rypien, quarterback

It's not necessarily an essential to have a third quarterback on your active roster, but the NFL's rule change preventing teams from promoting a practice squad quarterback as the "emergency" third guy on gamedays certainly changes the way teams have to strategize a little bit.

It's not essential to carry three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, but the Bears allowing Brett Rypien to hit the market after a strong preseason means they're obviously okay with the idea of losing him. And although Rypien doesn't have a ton of experience, he can provide value as essentially an extra "coach" in the quarterback room. He's a valuable extra set of eyes. If he ends up going to another team as a QB2 or QB3 elsewhere, the Bears might regret not having him around with two very young players -- Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent -- leading that quarterback room.

You obviously hope that a player like Rypien doesn't have to play, but his value is still there in other ways.
