3 Players the Bears Can Target Trading Down From No. 9 Pick
2. Chop Robinson: Edge, Penn State
This player is ideal for Bears general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. If you remember last year, every selection from the 2023 draft had a relative athletic score(RAS) of nine or more. Chop Robinson scored a 9.99 out of 10.
He fits the mold of a player the Bears are looking for. The combination of speed and power would complement Montez Sweat. A majority of the depth on the defense has signed via free agency.
Pairing a young, athletic freak on the Edge with an experienced vet would do wonders. It will build off the foundation that Ryan Poles wants to build this team through the trenches. Imagine Robinson and Sweat off of the Edge with Gervon Dexter at defensive tackle.
With a player with an athletic first step, a strong defender in the running game, an ideal build, and an athletic RAS score, the Bears have a player who can terrorize every NFC North quarterback for years to come. It is something to strive for when trading down in the draft.
Not since Khalil Mack have the Bears had a dominant pass rush, but this is on both sides of the defensive line with Robinson and Sweat. Robinson fills one of the enormous needs on the team. The Bears are deficient in reliable pass-rushers.
Outside of Sweat, they don't have any dependable options. Demarcus Walker is, at best, a rotational starter. When given the opportunity, Dominique Robinson has shown no promise in his development. Relying on minor free-agent signings is not any better.
It is an indication that edge-rusher is a primary target in the draft for the Bears. Chop Robinson fits that mold, but the question remains. Will Ryan Poles trade down from nine to select Chop Robinson? If he trades down, that is an exciting possibility.
