3 Free Agents the Bears Should Sign Before Mandatory Minicamp
Emmanuel Ogbah
The pre-season ranking for the Bears defensive line in 2023 was last place. To plug this enormous hole in the Bears' roster, general manager Ryan Poles traded for Montez Sweat mid-season. The defense miraculously turned around the second half of the season and became one of the top defenses in scoring, takeaways, and coverage.
At the end of 2024, the Bears defensive line was ranked last by PFF. Was the first half of the 2023 season that bad or do the Bears still need help in this category? The answer is that the Bears still need help in this category.
The Dolphins' Emmanuel Ogbah fell out of favor in Miami for no apparent reason. He is fast and effective, though he just had his 30th birthday. Ogbah had back-to-back nine-sack seasons in 2020 and 2021. But a scheme change left him out in the cold the past couple of years.
Like Williams, Ogbah comes very cheap with huge upside and potential. Since Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is a low blitz scheme guy, the pressure only comes from the skills of the defensive line.
Options, tools, and toys like Ogbah could give Eberflus quite a bit of flexibility to optimize the pass rush based on matchups and opposing quarterbacks.
