3 Former Bears Still Unemployed as OTAs Arrive
3. Rasheem Green, EDGE
The career of Rasheem Green hasn't exactly gone according to plan. He was originally selected 79th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks out of USC. You have to temper expectations for third-round picks at least a little bit, but for a guy taken 79th overall, Green wasn't able to secure a second contract in Seattle and wound up parlaying his best season (6.5 sacks in 2021) into a modest free agent deal with the Houston Texans.
He played one season with Houston before signing in Chicago last season where he played just 385 snaps. That is the 2nd-fewest number of snaps Green has played since his rookie season in Seattle.
Still, he appeared in all 17 games and registered a pair of sacks along with 8 QB pressures and 5 QB hits. There will eventually be a market for Green somewhere in the league this offseason considering he's just turned 27 years old and has good size.
Teams will be looking to fortify the overall depth on their 90-man rosters after they get an initial look at their rosters during OTAs, and Green will almost undoubtedly be a worthwhile dart throw for someone after June 1 when veteran contracts are no longer fully guaranteed for the 2024 season.
