3 Fighting Irish on Thin Ice Heading Into 2024 Season

The Fighting Irish have no excuses to make the College Football Playoff this season. However, these three individuals will play a large role in how things play out for Notre Dame.

3. Beaux Collins - WR

With the Fighting Irish likely leaning on two sophomore running backs (Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price), they will need their veteran pass catchers to do their part, if they have any chances of making the College Football Playoff.

Head coach Marcus Freeman upgraded the wide receiver room through the transfer portal, bringing in Beaux Collins from Clemson and Kris Mitchell from Florida International. Collins has a ton of talent but hasn’t taken off yet after playing three years at Clemson.

Last season, the 6-foot-3 wide receiver had 38 receptions for 510 yards and three scores, which isn’t horrible, given he was the second-leading receiver on Clemson. However, Notre Dame will be looking for similar or more after their leading receiver last season was Chris Tyree. Tyree had 26 receptions for 484 yards and three touchdowns.

However, the Irish won’t have Tyree to lean on in the passing game as he transferred to the University of Virginia this offseason. Therefore, it will be up to Collins, Mitchell, and tight end Mitchell Evans to help Leonard make Notre Dame one of the more prolific offenses in the country.
