3. Bears Defense

I don't know if you can really just pinpoint one specific player from OTAs when it comes to highlighting the Chicago Bears defense. This is a unit that really started to come together in the second half of last season (or after the Montez Sweat trade) and has seemingly carried over that momentum into the offseason.

Head coach Matt Eberflus is throwing the #1 defense at rookie QB Caleb Williams every day, and it doesn't sound like they are taking it easy on him out there. The reports out of Bears OTAs have indicated that Williams has had a bad practice or two (though he's bounced back as well) and the defense is flying around.

There are a few key factors there. First of all, the players that are playing in this defense have now all been together for a significant stretch of time. There are way fewer moving parts now than in previous years for Eberflus. Second, the talent level has reached a point now that guys are not only comfortable in their roles, but also the Bears have drafted and allocated their assets in free agency (or via trades) well.

The defense playing well this season would be monstrous for the Chicago Bears. To have a defense that can play consistently week in and week out would raise the floor of the entire team and allow Caleb Williams to fail forward throughout the course of the season. Having the defense keep you in close games can allow Williams to make mistakes throughout the course of a game and still have a chance to put his talent on display late in games as he has done in situations throughout OTAs.

The Bears' defense seems to be preparing him -and the rest of the team- for exactly that throughout OTAs.
