3 Bears Whose Stock is Rising and Falling Following Week 1 Win Over Titans
By Todd Welter
Here are three players whose stock is up...
Darrell Taylor
He was brought in via a trade with Seattle after the preseason ended to address the depth at pass rusher. The fear all preseason was the Bears lacked pass rushers after Montez Sweat. Taylor was added to quell those fears after he lost out on solidifying a spot in Seattle's edge rushing rotation.
He introduced himself to Chicago in the best way possible with two sacks including a strip sack that was recovered by T.J. Edwards.
Edwards also had a great game with 15 tackles, but Taylor was disrupting the Titans' offense for most of the second half. It was a second half where the Bears' defense kept Tennessee off the scoreboard after giving up 17 points in the first half.
That strip sack put the Bears in scoring position where the offense did do enough to make sure Cairo Santos could kick a field goal to make it 17-16.
Tyrique Stevenson
He got burned in the first half on Chig Okonkwo's touchdown catch. Stevenson made up for it by capitalizing on Titans QB Will Levis panicking when he saw Kyler Gordon barreling down on him.
Instead of taking the sack, Levis foolishly flung the ball in the air. Stevenson was right there for the interception and took it to the house for the go-ahead score.
Stevenson also had two passes defensed and the secondary continued to be the pillar of this defense as Jaylon Johnson made the game-clinching interception.
Jonathan Owens
Owen stood out by scoring the Bears' first touchdown when it looked very bleak. While it was Daniel Hardy who blocked Ryan Stonehouse's punt in the third quarter, it was Owens who was there to scoop up the loose ball and take it into the endzone.
Not bad for a guy who was featured in the preseason as Mr. Simone Biles.
It was six points Chicago needed as it looked like the offense was going to be incapable of putting a touchdown on the board.
While DeAndre Carter had a great day in the return game, it was Owens' scoop and score that finally swung the momentum in the Bears' favor.
