3 Bears Whose Stock is Rising and Falling Following Week 1 Win Over Titans
By Todd Welter
It was not a pretty game for the Chicago Bears in their Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans, but at least it was a victory.
The Bears came back from being down 17-0 in the first half to win 24-17.
Caleb Williams did not exactly wow anyone in his NFL debut. This year's No. 1 overall pick and generational talent at quarterback had just 93 yards passing. He missed some throws, had passes batted at the line, and was harassed all day by Tennessee's front four.
At the same time, receivers dropped some passes like Keenan Allen, who dropped a nice throw that would have been a touchdown in the first half. All-in-all, Williams looked like a rookie making his first NFL start.
While a quarterback who was considered to be a once-in-a-generation talent looking like a typical rookie QB is not what you want to see, he did make a few plays to help the team win. His performance showed he must adjust to the speed of the NFL and learn that he is not at USC anymore.
At least, Caleb was not sacked nine times like his predecessor Justin Fields was during his first career NFL start.
It did not help that the run game could not get going as the offense did next to nothing in this game.
On the bright side, Williams and the offense did not turn the ball over. Caleb's performance was a reminder that this will be a process and not a finished product out of the gate. The hope was he would already be better than what C.J. Stroud was at this point in his rookie season. Instead, reality is he is a rookie quarterback who needs time to go through the rookie issues 99% of rookie quarterbacks all do.
There is nothing wrong with that if he eventually reaches his destiny of being the first great quarterback the Bears have had since Sid Luckman stopped playing football in 1950.
That is why his stock should remain neutral. The offense on the other hand, well, its stock took a major hit. At least the defense and the special teams came to the rescue providing most of the points. Those phases of the team should be feeling pretty good.
Let's take a look at three players whose stock is rising and three whose stock is falling following the dramatic victory.
