3 Bears Most Likely to Be Traded Before Roster Cutdown Day
By Randy Gurzi
2. Dante Pettis, WR
Dante Pettis was supposed to be a difference-maker coming out of Washington. Taken 44th overall in 2018, Kyle Shanahan was enamored by his speed as a receiver. During that rookie campaign, he appeared to be headed in the right direction. Pettis had 27 receptions for 467 yards (an average of 17.3 per catch) with five touchdowns.
That remains his best season as a pro, however.
Pettis had just 109 yards in 2019 and by 2020, San Francisco had given up on him. The third-year wideout was waived in November and claimed by the New York Giants. He finished the season with New York and re-signed for 2021. He gave them 14 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2022, Pettis joined the Bears and had a decent campaign. In part-time duty, he had 245 yards and three touchdowns on 19 catches. He also added 163 yards on kickoff returns and ran for 37 more out of the backfield.
An injury ended his next season prematurely but the Bears re-signed him in March of 2024. Throughout camp, Pettis has been impressive but there might not be room. Behind the trio of D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Keenan Allen, the Bears have Tyler Scott, Velus Jones (who might be switched full-time to running back), DeAndre Carer, and Collin Johnson.
Of all the names on the bubble, Pettis could bring the most via trade. That's why he's a player to watch in the final game. Perhaps the Bears might showcase him for a receiver-needy team.
