3 Bears Fighting For Their Jobs After Free Agency
3. Any Young Safety Trying to Get Playing Time
If you're a young safety in Chicago trying to get any playing time, you can just about forget about it.
The Bears went out in NFL free agency and made some waves initially by releasing Eddie Jackson, a longtime starter on this team, and they just about immediately went out and replaced him with veteran Kevin Byard, who was previously released by the Eagles.
With Jaquan Brisker already in place, the Bears put together a pretty nice veteran safety duo already, and then they went out and added free agent Jonathan Owens, most recently of the Green Bay Packers and someone who played 775 defensive snaps last year and 233 snaps on special teams.
Needless to say, if you're a young safety on this Bears roster, it's going to be some tough sledding going after snaps.
There are two entrenched veterans in the starting lineup as well as a really solid, proven veteran role player behind them and ready to lead the charge on special teams. Players like Elijah Hicks, Adrian Colbert, Quindell Johnson, Douglas Coleman, and Tarvarius Moore aren't going to find it easy to get on the field.
Chicago also has a handful of studs at the cornerback position who won't be coming off the field unless injury dictates it. The Bears have assembled a tremendous, talented secondary with depth. Young players will find it hard to get any snaps at all this season.
Despite a busy free agency, the Chicago Bears are still +350 underdogs to win the NFC North next season. Head over to FanDuel Sportsbook to take advantage of these odds and don't forget to claim your sign-up offer of $200 in bonus bets after your first winning wager.
