3 Bears Already on the Chopping Block Before OTAs
3. Brett Rypien, QB
It shouldn't be overly shocking that the third quarterback on the depth chart is going to be entering the offseason program firmly on the chopping block, but the Chicago Bears are solidified at the top two quarterback positions.
Caleb Williams is going to be the starter of this team. The Bears have already made that announcement.
Tyson Bagent was really solid as a rookie and is not only going to have a lot of avid advocates and supporters among the Bears fan base, but within the organization as well.
Brett Rypien may have a future in the NFL as a quarterbacks coach or offensive play caller, so his presence in that room is going to be valuable, if even just for a short time. One of the biggest reasons why we could see Brett Rypien on the chopping block even ahead of OTAs is the presence of 2024 undrafted free agent Austin Reed, another potential UDFA gem at the quarterback position for the Bears.
Reed played his college ball the last two years at Western Kentucky where he threw a whopping 71 touchdown passes, running for 12 more. He will be an intriguing young player to watch and should have Rypien looking over his shoulder.
