3 Bears Already on the Chopping Block Before OTAs
2. Braxton Jones, OT
One player who could be on the chopping block as we approach OTAs is Bears starting left tackle Braxton Jones.
Jones has developed well as a former small school, Day 3 draft pick. The Bears should be able to bank on him being their starting left tackle again this coming season, but don't count out rookie third-round pick Kiran Amegadjie out of Yale.
Because access to Yale football tape is limited, you really have to lean into what the experts are saying on a guy like Amegadjie. Here's part of NFL.com expert Lance Zierlein's scouting report on him:
"With a rare blend of athletic traits and eye-popping length, it might be a mistake to bet against the high number of boxes Amegadjie checks. His hand usage is a work in progress, and he hasn't learned to consistently get into blocks with proper footwork and body control, but both issues are coachable and likely to be corrected. Provided he improves his punch-timing and placement, his ability to keep rushers at the end of his length could become a big advantage. Amegadjie already possesses impressive explosiveness as a drive blocker and could become a quality NFL starter once his tutelage is complete."

It's only a matter of time before someone like Amegadjie puts things together and is able to get into the starting lineup. Amegadjie could end up being one of the bigger steals of this draft class because this was known as being a big-time offensive tackle class. He sort of flew under the radar thanks to the fact that he played at Yale instead of a Power 5 school, but he's going to make waves quicker than people think.
