8. Austin Reed, Quarterback

Here's another relatively easy one. We looked at the Rypien/Bagent situation above, but Austin Reed is also an obvious odd man out in the Bears' quarterback room.

Not even making his way into the QB2 battle with Bagent and Rypien meant his place on the roster was always going to come to an end on cutdown day. The undrafted free agent has been a good training camp body though, and honestly he hasn't looked half bad in preseason action.

The majority of his preseason game reps came on running plays, but he did finish with 122 yards, 1 touchdown and no picks on his 16 pass attempts, getting a strong 74.0 grade from PFF. But 16 decent dropbacks don't suddenly elevate an undrafted quarterback onto a roster spot.

What this does mean for Reed, however, is that he probably will be back in Chicago. He's almost guaranteed to clear waivers, and at that point Chicago can re-sign him to the practice squad. His familiarity with the team and the promise he has shown so far should continue to make him a useful body to have around in practice, and he may even eventually develop into being able to compete for that QB2 role next offseason.
