11 Bears Who Will Be Cut By Tuesday's Roster Deadline
6. Adrian Colbert, Safety
Roster gymnastics everywhere else on this Chicago Bears roster are going to dictate some potentially very difficult roster cuts in the secondary.
Right now, the secondary might be the single deepest area of the Chicago Bears' roster, and that is saying something when you look at their wide receiver and running back positions.
The Bears are currently in line to potentially keep up to seven cornerbacks on the roster. Depending on whose projections you look at, we could see Chicago keeping Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, Kyler Gordon, Terell Smith, Josh Blackwell, Jaylon Jones, and Greg Stroman. Heck, even Reddy Steward -- who had a pick-six against the Chiefs -- could end up forcing Stroman out of that mix if the Bears don't feel like he'll make it through waivers.
At the safety position, the Bears may not be quite as strong on the top end, but they are still extremely deep.
Kevin Byard was one of the team's prized free agent pickups. Jaquan Brisker is a young player who is expected to step up in a big way. Elijah Hicks has earned a roster spot this offseason and Jonathan Owens has a defined role as well.
It could be tough to cut guys like Adrian Colbert and Tarvarius Moore especially because they have ties to Bears special teams coordinator Richard Hightower. The nice thing is, both of those guys are veterans and the Bears could potentially manipulate the waiver wire and new practice squad rules by cutting those guys initially, re-signing them to the practice squad, and elevating them for games as needed.
Again, it's all about playing the game of roster gymnastics at this point, so some names who would make a lot of sense to contribute to the gameday roster could end up being procedural cuts before Tuesday so the Bears can make sure they don't have to subject certain guys to waivers that they might be afraid of losing to other teams.
