The Chicago Bears capped off a pretty impressive preseason with a win against the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing them up to a rare 4-0 preseason record and certainly keeping optimism brimming among the fan base. The Bears have been a focus for just about everyone during the 2024 offseason thanks to the arrival of #1 overall pick Caleb Williams, and the expectations for this team on a national level have dramatically changed since his arrival.

Going 4-0 in the preseason ultimately doesn't mean anything, but the four preseason games have provided us with ample opportunities to evaluate this Bears roster and try to figure out which guys are going to make up the 53-man roster as a whole.

After everything we've seen throughout the preseason, which players do we see getting cut before Tuesday's roster deadline?

1. Brett Rypien, Quarterback

This has less to do with Brett Rypien and more to do with two other major factors.

First of all, keeping three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster is a tough sell for just about any team these days. Unless you are hoarding a prospect at the position, or if you believe you have a reclamation project worth investing in, it's really tough not to allocate that valuable roster spot elsewhere.

Second, this decision would have a lot more to do with Tyson Bagent than Brett Rypien. I think we've now officially seen enough from Bagent to be confident that the Bears actually have one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL, perhaps even a future starter in Bagent (although for some other team, right?).

The decision to keep Rypien could ultimately come down to how valuable the Bears believe he is inside that quarterback meeting room. Rypien has long been thought of highly as a great asset off the field in the quarterback room and he might have a future as a coach in the NFL. But he can also provide value as a #2, so perhaps the Bears will let him go explore his options elsewhere.
