The Chicago Cubs may be in the thick of the Wild Card race as the MLB approaches October baseball, but Pete Crow-Armstrong still holds everyone's eye as he continues a monster MVP-caliber season. Wednesday saw his 43rd and 44th home run, breaking Billy Williams' record for most home runs in a season by a left handed hitter.
At present, PCA stands one single home run behind Kyle Schwarber for the lead in the entire MLB, and yet, it just feels inevitable that he's going to take it. Schwarber is a formidable hitter, but something about the momentum behind PCA just feel right.
Pete Crow-Armstrong’s historic numbers only tell part of the story
On the season, PCA has smacked 44 home runs, stolen 37 bases, driven in 105 RBI's, and collected 167 hits. His contribution to the Cubs has been undeniably stellar, but his stats don't exactly do him justice. They're impressive, yes, but numbers on a page really can't convey the vibe that Pete brings to the clubhouse, to the field, and most importantly, to the fans.

Counsell continues to say that the fans are going to tell their grandkids about this type of season, and that he's grateful to be a part of it. Counsell has been around the game a long time. His experience is at a level not many in the game ever rise to achieve. For him to speak on PCA's season as something to tell the grandkids about isn't something that should be taken lightly.
The MVP race was once a highly contested title between PCA and the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani, but in the last month or so, PCA has pulled ahead significantly, with most betting markets showing him as the clear victor.
With the season coming to a close, it's important now for the Cubs to remain focused on the lead up to October. PCA may just make it over the hump to catch Schwarber, or even to post an impressive 40/40 season, but all of it will be done in the name of helping the Cubs to the best possible playoff positioning. These final games could elevate PCA's already incredibly impressive season into something nearly unprecedented.
