Patrick Kane's return to the Blackhawks is a welcome addition to Chicago's chances that nobody saw coming. Kane may be on the older side, but nobody can deny his accomplishments on the ice, and nobody can deny his accomplishments in a Blackhawks jersey.
It's surreal to think about. After all of this time, after everything that happened, Kane is returning to Chicago. Kane's departure from Chicago was truly the end of an era. Now that he's returning, some of the old nostalgic excitement can take hold. Kane recently did a bit of promotional work for the Blackhawks to address the fans.
Kane is already counting down the days
"What's up, Hawks fans? Patrick Kane here. Happy to be back as a Blackhawk in the city of Chicago. Let's go. It's 67 days till the regular season, so a little bit of time to get yourself excited and ready for the season here. Really just so excited to be back and be a Blackhawk again. Kane addressing the city after everything he's delivered to us is something that just feels right. Like he was returning to addressing his people. There's just about two months to go until the start of the regular season. With the NHL offseason flying by, it's only a matter of time before every household in Chicago is shouting for Kane to score.
With Kane's arrival back in Chicago, the Blackhawks are expected to see a significant jump in performance and standing. With this young team, and old man Kane coming to play, the Blackhawks may really be building something here. Kane isn't just a link to the past, though. Though he may be pushing forty, Kane is still a very real and very present threat on the ice. Had Kane been on Chicago last season, his point total would have ranked just third on the team.
Chicago waited more than three years to welcome Kane home, so another 67 days should be easy enough. When he finally takes the ice in a Blackhawks sweater again, the roar inside the United Center will make every one of them worth it.
