The Chicago Bears made a big splash on the trade market by shipping out wide receiver DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills earlier this week. The trade created more money for the team to use to make a pass-rushing upgrade; however, that doesn't change the fact that Moore's exit could have ripple effects on the Bears' WR room.
With one contributor gone from quarterback Caleb Williams' arsenal, the odds of Olamide Zaccheaus returning to the Bears got a boost. He's slated to hit free agency next week, but the arrow is pointing up on him returning to the Windy City.
Olamide Zaccheaus’ Odds of Returning to Bears Got a Boost After DJ Moore Trade
Spotrac projects Zaccheaus to land a one-year, $1.7 million deal. That's such a small number in the grand scheme of things and would give Chicago some stability to lean on.
Although Chicago is expected to get more from Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III in the wide receiver room next season, Zaccheaus still played a role in the offense in 2025. He ranked third among Chicago wide receivers in offensive snaps (617). Zaccheaus finished the season with 39 catches for 313 yards and two touchdowns, but was fourth on the team in targets (65).
It's clear that he earned the trust of head coach Ben Johnson, and Williams looked his way consistently. Bringing back the 28-year-old wouldn't deter them from making other meaningful additions to the receiver room. Yet he would give them depth and a player who already understands the scheme and system.
Chicago also has John Richardson, Qadir Ismail, Maurice Alexander, and Jahdae Walker as the other receivers on the roster. Walker is the only one who showed flashes last season, meaning there are plenty of opportunities up for grabs.
While this may not be a major addition that fans are looking for, having quality depth is a plus for any team in the league. Injuries are a part of the game, as Chicago saw last season. Odunze missed five games, with Burden missing two himself.
You never know when a player will have to step up, so having someone the coaches can trust goes a long way.
Zaccheaus fits that description, adding stability to Chicago's passing game. It seems like Johnson will lean on Colston Loveland, Odunze, and Burden as his top three pass-catchers in 2026, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for Zaccheaus to make an impact. He can even return punts if needed, adding more value.
With Moore out of the picture, Zaccheaus is the perfect low-cost addition who can help stabilize the Bears' WR room, all while occasionally giving fans a play that brings them out of their seat.
