The Chicago Bears' offense came out of nowhere and became one of the scarier units in the NFL by the time the end of the 2025 season came around. However, it is not getting the national respect yet. In a recent ranking of the top offenses in the NFL, Bleacher Report put the Chicago Bears 14th overall.
Will the Chicago Bears' offense be average in 2026?
That is pretty close to average. It is fair to say that if that happens, most Bears fans will not be happy with how the season turned out. In their reasons for pessimism, they mentioned that there are a lot of players who are banking on steps forward for this to continue.
They lost a starting center, a talented receiver, and some depth at receiver this offseason. The Bears are mostly looking for players on the roster to take steps forward or improve from past years.
Caleb Williams was much better with Ben Johnson, but will he continue that trajectory, or hit a bump in the road when teams have all offseason to learn what he can and cannot do in this system?
Luther Burden, Kyle Monangai, and Colston Loveland had breakout rookie seasons, but none are sure things to continue the ascension into year two. The offense will almost certainly be more questionable at left tackle and center. So, there are reasons to rank them so low.
At the same time, the ceiling is sky high. Most thought that Jared Goff would get figured out under Ben Johnson over time, and he continued to get better as he understood the offense. Williams has much better physical tools as well.
The rookies are highly talented and are being asked to do the things that they are great at. The only gripes about Loveland and Burden were that they needed the ball more, and Monangai is still in a great two-headed attack.
The offensive line questions could be eased by Johnson being even better as a second-year head coach. There is just as much reason to think that 10th would be too low for this group, let alone 14th.
It will be interesting to see if the Bears offense can live up to the expectations that they set last year, or if they do plateau around the league average or slightly above. This will go a long way in telling us just how high the ceiling is moving forward.
