Nate Davis' Replacement Immediately Sees Field for Bears in Week 11
By Jovan Alford
The Chicago Bears wasted no time replacing veteran offensive lineman Nate Davis, who they released on Wednesday. The Bears signed 26-year-old lineman Jake Curhan from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Curhan has appeared in two games this season, playing 17 offensive snaps and allowing three snaps. On Sunday, the Bears called Curhan into duty after one of their starting o-linemen got banged up.
According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, starting left guard Ryan Bates went into the medical tent in the first half, opening the door for Curhan to come into the game. Bates was reportedly being evaluated for a concussion and has been ruled out.
If you are Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, this isn’t what you want to see as the team is without linemen Teven Jenkins and Kiran Amegadjie, who were listed as inactive before kickoff.
Based on Curhan’s production with the Bears, you have to believe the Packers will try to load up pressure on the left side. At the same time, anything that Curhan does positively on Sunday will be better than what they were getting from Davis.
Davis was supposed to be active for last week’s game against the New England Patriots, but he was ruled out with a back injury and told to stay home.
For the Bears to snap their third-game losing skid today, they will need Curhan and the rest of the offensive line to keep Caleb Williams upright, which has been an issue over the last few weeks.
