Michael Busch continues to come through for the Chicago Cubs when they need him the most, as he continues his streak of consistency. The Cubs narrowly avoided falling under .500, and have now won their last two games. Busch had a big home run in the series opener in San Fransisco that really blew the game wide open and ensured the Cubs victory.
The Cubs are struggling. Consistent pitching injuries have skidded a once promising season not to a halt entirely, but it's derailed it enough to put a damper on any real contention hopes. The Brewers still hold a tight grip on the NL Central, maintaining a five game lead over the Cardinals, who are 2.5 games in front of the Cubs. Since the Cubs broke their longest losing streak of the season, they've gone 7-8. Not good enough to catch the Brewers or even the Cardinals without playing .500 ball.
Michael Busch's approach is producing results
"Yeah, just I think, you know, sticking to the approach I have, trying to stay up the middle. I've seen that guy a few times in the last week, so that helps. But yeah, just trusting my approach, trying to get him in the zone. Yeah, stay through the middle. I think it's giving me some success."Michael Busch

Busch didn't start out the season how he'd hoped. Through all of April, Busch had 18 hits in 96 at bats, giving him an average of .188. Since then, Busch has been a beacon of steadiness in a the Cubs recent struggles. Busch has even been the guy delivering walk-off endings to games. Busch clearly did something to change his approach, because it's working now.
The Cubs struggles lie in a multitude of different reasons, but a deflated offense isn't good enough to take any division. The Cubs are still set to go to play against the Brewers again at the end of June. Ideally for the Cubs, they can start to show some real progress and gain some ground before taking on Milwaukee.
Busch's splash hit will grab the headlines, but the bigger story is that he's become one of the Cubs' most dependable hitters at a time when they desperately need consistency. If Chicago is going to make up ground in the NL Central, it'll need more nights like this from its first baseman.
