Matt Eberflus' Monday Radio Interview Quickly Turns Into Absolute Disaster
By Jovan Alford
After the Chicago Bears suffered their third-straight loss on Sunday to the New England Patriots, fans anxiously awaited what Bears head coach Matt Eberflus had to say on his weekly radio spot on ESPN 1000.
The Bears returned home on Sunday after dropping their fourth-consecutive road game last week in Arizona. However, things didn't improve for Chicago as they lost 19-3 to the Patriots. Unfortunately, the radio spot was as much of a disaster as Sunday's loss.
As you can imagine, Bears fans are disappointed with the team’s performance over the last few weeks and want to see changes at head coach or offensive coordinator. Eberflus joined David Kaplan and J-Hood to discuss Monday’s loss, but the interview didn’t go as planned.
The Bears head coach dealt with some phone connection issues, which stopped the interview a couple of times. When they got Eberflus back on air, it was hard to decipher what he was trying to say.
After having his connection drop twice, one would think Eberflus’ phone issue would fix itself. That was not the case as his connection dropped for a third time, ultimately canceling the interview.
Kaplan wasn't shy about roasting Eberflus or the Bears, either, saying “Coach, your cellphone is bad as the offense right now.” (h/t Adam Jahns of The Athletic). It's a funny jab, but it also has to sting for Eberflus considering how much truth is rooted in there.
The Bears have scored a combined 27 points over the last three games, averaging just 230 yards of total offense per game since the bye week. Improving that in the near future will be a tall test too when you consider the upcoming matchups for Chicago: Green bay, Minnesota, Detroit, San Francisco, Minnesota again, Detroit again.
After a rough morning interview, Bears fans will get another chance to hear from Eberflus later today at his day-after-game press conference from Halas Hall. The third-year head coach will likely be asked about the offensive play-calling again, which was abysmal in Sunday’s loss to the Pats.
