Matt Eberflus Hints at Major Bears Coaching Change After Week 10 Disaster
By Jovan Alford
After losing their fourth-straight road game, the Chicago Bears returned home Sunday looking for a much-needed win over the two-win New England Patriots.
However, the Bears’ offense struggled mightily as rookie QB Caleb Williams was sacked nine times, which led to Chicago losing 19-3. The Bears’ offense only had 142 total yards, which included a mediocre 73 rushing yards.
Heading into Sunday’s contest, there was a lot of discussion surrounding Chicago offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. But Eberflus quelled the noise around his new OC, saying he would continue to call plays.
After Sunday’s loss to the Pats, Eberflus might be having a change of heart. According to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times, Eberflus told reporters that a change in offensive coordinator is on the table this week.
It’s not shocking to see Eberflus go this route as Chicago’s offense got stymied by a Patriots’ defense that allowed 24.1 points per game heading into Sunday’s game.
The Bears’ offense has so much talent at the skill positions but has only scored 27 total points over the last three games. That’s a dramatic change from Weeks 4-6 when Chicago averaged 31.6 points per game.
If the Bears do make a change at offensive play-caller, one potential option could be passing game coordinator Thomas Brown. The 38-year-old Brown was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers last season.
However, the Panthers' offense wasn't much to talk about last season as they didn't have an identity after firing head coach Frank Reich.
