The 2025 offseason has started for 18 teams in the NFL after the regular season ended last week. The Bears have missed out on the postseason for the fourth straight season.

Chicago entered the season with high hopes and expectations but things came crashing back. After starting the season 4-2, the Bears went on to lose six games in a row. On Thanksgiving Day, the Bears fell to the Detroit Lions 23-20 due to a big-time clocking blunder.

He was fired on Nov. 29 after three and a half seasons with the Bears. During his tenure there, he went 14-32 and never made the postseason once. It was a bad run for him there but Eberflus is looking at other options around the league to get back on the sideline in 2025.

Bears Rumors: Matt Eberflus Linked to Cincinnati Bengals DC Opening

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Eberflus is "involved" in the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator position. On Jan. 6, the Bengals fired Lou Anarumo after six seasons with the team.

Cincinnati had one of the worst defenses in the league this season. They were ranked 25th in total defense (348.3), 21st in pass defense (223.5), and 19th in run defense (124.8). The Bengals were also tied for 27th in scoring defense (25.5).

They are looking for a new voice in that building and Eberflus is someone that has caught their attention. With the Bears and Colts, Eberflus did a great job getting good production from those units.

In 2017, he inherited a Colts defense that was 30th in both scoring defense (25.2) and total defense (367.1). In the following campaign, they were 10th in scoring defense (21.5) and 11th in total defense (339.4).

Eberflus still has work to do to land the DC gig, but if Eberflus landed with Cincinnati, he would square off against the Bears during the 2025 season as Chicago travels to play the Bengals.
