The Chicago Bears take the field for their season opener against the Carolina Panthers, and now the team is worried it may be missing one of its key receivers. Luther Burden recently suffered a groin injury that launched the media into speculation about how much time the young wide out may miss.

It's now being reported that though the rest of his Training Camp may be ruined, it's likely that Burden will return to the team just in time for their Week 1 debut in Charlotte. The news comes as a relief after much conjecture that led many fans on social media to assume the worst about one of the Bears most promising young players.

Burden will lose valuable time before his anticipated breakout season

The hype around Burden has been growing plenty since the end of the 2025 campaign. Burden emerged as one of Caleb Williams' top targets toward the latter half of the season and into the playoffs, leading many to expect this season to bring more of the same. The buildup grew even further this season during OTAs when head coach Ben Johnson even stated he'd "be buying Luther Burden stock right now".

Missing this much time during training camp doesn't bode well for the 22 year old, but it's better that this occurs now rather than during the regular season. This should allow for the Bears to give Burden the time he needs to recover to be ready to go by the time his name is called for Week 1.

The Bears have placed their trust in two young receivers in Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, with many fans and pundits believing the two to be competing for the top receiver job in Chicago. Though that role would fall to Odunze by default just based on experience alone, a large portion of the fan base believes Burden to be the superior receiver.

Though this report comes as a positive sign, it doesn't guarantee anything. Groin injuries can be tricky, so it's important for Burden to move gingerly and not over-exert himself until he's cleared by the Bears training staff. If all goes well, the Bears shouldn't miss time with one of their top receiving options, and the fans can rest easy.
