The Chicago Bears had a fantastic run in 2025 that ended with a gut-wrenching 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round. There will be changes made to the roster as a result, including at wide receiver.
Some fans were calling for DJ Moore to be traded off the team following the angle he took against the safety in overtime, leading to an interception. There will be rumors that the Bears should move on from him, and Buffalo WR Keon Coleman is a potential replacement who could be had. This is especially true after Wednesday's comments made by Bills owner Terry Pegula.
On Wednesday, Pegula decided to chime in on Coleman, defending Buffalo GM Brandon Beane for the pick. Pegula stated, "The coaching staff pushed to pick Keon." He also added that it wasn't Beane's top choice, but he gave in cause the staff pushed for him.
After comments are public like this, it's all but guaranteed that Coleman will get traded this offseason. Which is where the Bears could be an option due to the questions surrounding Moore's future.
Bears Could Jump into Keon Coleman Sweepstakes
If the Bears moved Moore with a post-June 1 trade, they would save $24.5 million in cap space. That money would go a long way, considering Chicago will enter the offseason with $3 million in space per Spotrac.
As for Coleman, he's on the books for $2.7 million in 2026 and $3.2 million in 2027. That means Coleman, Luther Burden, and Rome Odunze would carry a combined cap hit of $11.2 million. That's a ton of money that would be freed up. Coleman's 2025 season was a disaster, which featured multiple healthy scratches.
Over 13 games (6 starts), he finished with 38 catches for 404 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, as a rookie, he posted 29 receptions with 556 receiving yards and four scores. He showcased some flashes, but Coleman could use a change of scenery.
Since the former coaching staff pushed for him to be on the team, there's a great chance he plays football elsewhere in 2026, with the Bills slated to hire a new head coach. The fact that the owner decided to make these comments to the public means Coleman's door in Buffalo has likely closed.
Chicago could acquire him for Day 3 pick swaps, which could be interesting. Moore posted career lows in catches (50) and receiving yards (682) in the first year under Ben Johnson.
The combination of his production and cap hit makes him a player they may look to move. The idea of taking a flier on Coleman could be enticing for this team. The former Florida State standout isn't known for being a precise route runner. He stands 6'4" and can thrive in contested catch situations.
Johnson may be able to regain that spark in Coleman. The Bears have some decisions to make for their WR room, and this scenario should be one to consider.
