Keenan Allen Shoots Down Idea of Joining NFC Dumpster Fire

After this season, the 32-year-old wide receiver will be a free agent and already knows one team he doesn't want to play for.

Chicago Bears veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen is not having a typical season in the Windy City. Allen, who the Bears acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, has gotten off to a slow start.

Allen has recorded 39 receptions (71 targets) for 368 yards and three touchdowns through nine games this season. The 32-year-old wide receiver is on pace for 60 receptions (110 targets) for 569 yards and five touchdowns, which would be a huge drop-off from what he did last season with the Chargers.

The veteran receiver is scheduled to be a free agent after this season, meaning he could go elsewhere or hopefully re-sign in the Windy City. Allen was on “The Big Dog Show” with David Kaplan and Bears teammate Marcedes Lewis, where he was asked about his future.

According to Brendan Surgue of the Bears Wire, Allen told Kaplan and Lewis he would like to play in LA or Chicago in 2025. However, the wide receiver also mentioned that he or his agent have had conversations with Bears GM Ryan Poles.

At the same time, Allen made it clear there’s one team in the NFC that he doesn’t want to play for – the New York Giants. Kaplan asked the wide receiver about the Giants as a proposed free agent and laughingly said, “No, definitely not the Giants.”

I don’t think anyone would blame Allen for dismissing the idea of the Giants, who have been a dumpster fire this season. Their starting QB play has been less-than-stellar, which is why their offense has looked terrible this season.

Additionally, the way New York went about free agency last year with star running back Saquon Barkley likely doesn’t help them.

That said, Allen coming back to the Windy City next season at a reasonable price, wouldn’t be a bad idea to pair with D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze. Even though Allen hasn’t played like the same guy we saw in Los Angeles over the last few years, the Bears keeping that continuity for a second year with Caleb Williams could do wonders.
