Keenan Allen Makes it Clear He Doesn't Expect to Return to Bears This Offseason
By Cem Yolbulan
There has been a ton of disappointment in the Bears' 2024 season. Chicago wasn't able to click at any point in the season, especially on the offensive end. Despite the selection of Caleb Williams and the additions of Keenan Allen and D'Andre Swift, the offense never got off the ground and currently ranks as the 26th-best unit in the NFL. The underwhelming offensive production raised questions about Allen's future in Chicago.
Keenan Allen was brought in via a trade with the Chargers in the offseason. Like the rest of the team, the 32-year-old didn't exactly live up to the expectations but has taken his game to the next level in recent weeks. In his last five games, Allen has five touchdowns and has emerged as a safety blanket for Williams. Between the last two games, Allen has 26 targets and 15 receptions, signaling the connection he has built with Williams under center.
However, the six-time Pro Bowler is a free agent at the end of the season. When asked about what the future holds, Allen refused to commit to Chicago, per Bears reporter Sean Hammond. Instead, Allen said he is trying to prove himself to all 32 teams and that the last name on his back "is really what matters."
Bears News: Keenan Allen Clearly Doesn't Expect to Return to Chicago
Allen now has 62 catches, 694 yards, and seven touchdowns in 13 games this season. This is probably not what Bears fans were hoping for when the team traded a fourth-round pick for him, but Allen is also far from being the biggest problem in Chicago.
Whether the Bears will make Allen a top priority in the offseason remains to be seen. It will likely depend on Allen's market as the Bears presumably don't want to break the bank for a receiver who is going to turn 33 before next season when they have Rome Odunze and DJ Moore.
