The Bears have a plethora of wide receivers to choose from this season, but Kaden Davis may have used Chicago's first preseason game as the strongest case yet to make the 53 man roster. Davis has bounced around the league signing one year deals to make the practice squad in multiple organizations before landing with the Houston Gamblers of the UFL in 2025.
Saturday brought the Bears back to Soldier field for the first time since January, and with it for the first time, Kaden Davis. Davis is looking to make his way back to the NFL for the first time since he played was active for two games in 2025 with the Cleveland Browns.

Obviously we're discussing the Bears first preseason game. Nobody in their right mind is expecting either team to bring 100% on either side of the ball. But what's important here is that we see how these players and coaches handle real-time game situations without the actual stakes of seasonal impact. It's an opportunity for the coaching staffs to see their strategies and players work things out in real time, outside of a controlled environment.
That's why it's so massively important for those in Davis' position to make the most of every opportunity he has. With the likes of Odunze, Burden, and Thomas not playing, it gave guys like Davis a golden moment to showcase his abilities.
Davis caught four receptions and was able to stack 88 yards onto them. Davis connected with Bagent for a 41 yard reception that pushed the Bears into the Browns territory early in the second while the Bears were down. Though Davis didn't get to record a touchdown on the day, it's supportive plays like this that make all the difference in the world. Not every play needs to be a big explosive play like this one, but it sure helps your case to make the roster when it happens on a national stage.
This doesn't necessarily mean that Davis is now a lock for the 53-man roster. As a matter of fact, this only means that Davis passed the first test on his route to a roster spot. There's still several barriers that stand in his way, but this is surely a good sign for a depth piece signing. If Davis can continue this type of performance through the preseason, that roster spot will come closer and closer with every step he takes.
