Former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has had an interesting start to his career, now on his third team in as many seasons after joining the New York Jets this offseason. He's shown strong flashes of excellent potential but struggled with consistency and hopes to prove his best days as a starter have yet to come.

Fields spent 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, going 4-2 as a starter before getting benched for veteran Russell Wilson. Neither player is in Pittsburgh anymore, yet both will presumably be given the chance to lead their respective teams next year.

It wasn't clear where exactly Wilson would end up. While teams like the Cleveland Browns were a possibility, Wilson has now settled in with an NFC laughingstock.

Justin Fields' Old Competition Russell Wilson Signs With Giants

According to Tom Pelissero, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Wilson signed with the New York Giants on a one-year contract with $10.5 million guaranteed. He can earn up to $21 million, though his deal doesn't come close to the $30 million guaranteed that Fields received from the Jets.

Given their respective ages and Fields' upside, that makes sense. Wilson went 6-5 starting for Pittsburgh and faltered down the stretch, but he's still a reliable option as the Giants try to address the position. They have the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft next month and if both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are off the board, New York may take the best player available and just roll with Wilson.

Either way, it's a blessing that the Bears aren't in this kind of a position anymore. Caleb Williams is a legitimate franchise quarterback and now that new head coach Ben Johnson is in the building, fans should expect the offense to improve in a major way.

Many fans still wish Fields the best, as he was widely beloved in the locker room and considered a great leader. Hopefully, both he and Williams can find success. At the least, it's nice to see the 26-year-old dual-threat weapon get another opportunity to shine and revive his career.
