There have been countless transactions happening this week as free agency officially opened up. The Bears have been aggressive thus far this offseason. After naming Ben Johnson the new head coach, they have made it a priority to improve the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Protecting quarterback Caleb Williams has been the priority, and former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields got that as well on Wednesday. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, former Packers C/G Josh Myers agreed to terms with the New York Jets on a one-year, $3.5 million deal.
Myers and Fields played college ball together at Ohio State from at 2019-2020 and are now reunited again in the NFL.

Justin Fields is Reunited With His Former College Teammate
On Monday, the Jets and Fields agreed to terms on a two-year, $40 million deal, including $30 million guaranteed.
After spending the first three years of his career with the Bears, Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He only started six games for them before getting benched in favor of Russell Wilson. That didn't sit well with Fields and he decided to head over to New York.
Myers was a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Packers. Over four seasons, he started in 56 regular-season games for Green Bay. Despite consistently suiting up for the Packers, he struggled when out on the field.
Over the last two seasons, he's logged 25-plus pressures with an overall grade of 55, according to PFF. Myers also struggled as a run-blocker, posting a 52.2-run-blocking grade (54th among 64 eligible centers) in 2024.
His shaky play could have led to him signing such a low-cost contract. The Jets bringing in one of Fields' former teammates is something that will make him more comfortable when he walks into the locker room. The Jets already have Garrett Wilson and Jeremy Ruckert in the group, who also played with Fields at Ohio State.
These connections go a long way for players, and this is something that Fields will appreciate during the season.
