The Chicago Bears are going through serious changes in the offseason, bringing in Ben Johnson as the new head coach, and hiring Declan Doyle and Dennis Allen as the offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively. There will likely be more sweeping changes to the roster with the start of the offseason.

However, the Bears aren't the only team in the process of a big transition. The Pittsburgh Steelers, after another wild-card round exit, are considering making sweeping changes in the offseason. These changes potentially involve former Chicago Bear Justin Fields.

Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II revealed to reporters, including Steelers insider Joe Rutter, that they will likely only re-sign one of Fields or Russell Wilson. Adding that the top offseason priority is the QB situation, Rooney said he doubts both players will return.

NFL News: Steelers Will Only Re-Sign Justin Fields or Russell Wilson

This increases the chances of Fields signing elsewhere in free agency. The former first-round pick was traded to the Steelers in the 2024 offseason. During Wilson's injury to begin the season, Fields started the first six weeks of the campaign, leading Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record. Despite the hot start, head coach Mike Tomlin benched Fields in favor of Wilson, who started the last 11 games of the season and the postseason game against the Ravens.

Wilson is 36 years old and isn't the explosive dual threat he once was. He was still solid in his starts last season, but he certainly puts a ceiling on the Steelers' offense, who finished the year 16th in scoring and 23rd in total yards. Even if Wilson is the answer for the immediate future, the Steelers obviously need to find a long-term solution at QB. If Fields isn't that guy, it doesn't bode well for his chances of being a starter in the 2025 season.
