Joe Thuney is the most decorated lineman in the NFL today, and probably one of the best lineman in the modern era of the NFL. It is extremely significant that Ryan Poles, the Chicago Bears general manager, went out of his way to get Thuney, and his effect was immediately felt. The Bears offensive line dropped from 68 to only 24 in the span of a single season. This contributed heavily to the Bears ability to take the division.
To be named in the top 50 if the NFLs top 100 is a big honor. Let's remember for just a moment that there are no pundits or journalists ranking this sheet, it's entirely voted upon by the players. Thuney has been a force to be reckoned with on the line, and I'd expect everyone and their grandmother to have noticed by now.
The Bears only need Joe Thuney to remain Joe Thuney
Most of the time, the next portion of this article would be filled with what needs to be done to attain the next level, or what obstacles are to be overcome. But Thuney is a special case. The man doesn't have obstacles, he only has speed bumps. And the Bears only need that. They don't need to reinvent the wheel, they don't even need to do anything particularly special. They just need to keep Thuney in a position to do what he does best.
But that's where Thuney shines the most. It's his consistency that defines him. It's the ability to go out there week in and week out and consistently produce whether you're up against the toughest team in the league, or the Packers. It's the ability to make it look easy, even when nobody can do it the same.
Whether he is facing the best defensive front in football or the worst, the Bears can trust Thuney to deliver the same elite performance every week. Chicago does not need him to become anything more than he already is, because Joe Thuney being Joe Thuney is more than enough.
