The Chicago Bears close Week 1 when they host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. The Bears are hoping to have all their starters ready to roll in this contest, but cornerback Jaylon Johnson's availability is up in the air.
When speaking to the media on Tuesday, Johnson said, "I’m doing everything I can to be ready.” He suffered a groin injury while training and was on the non-football injury list for a little bit this summer.
Johnson added that he hopes he will be cleared to practice on Wednesday, then he'll see how his body reacts to being on the football field.

Jaylon Johnson's Status for Week 1 Is Shaky
Johnson hasn't been able to take the field with his teammates, missing training camp and preseason. Not getting his body up to speed isn't the best-case scenario for Johnson and the Bears.
The fact he's dealing with a groin isn't ideal. As a cornerback, he will constantly be changing directions and speeds. With a nagging groin injury holding him back, that will limit his ability to make plays, and since he's not cleared yet, is a bit alarming.
If he were ready to roll, he would be on the field practicing, but that isn't what's happening right now. Considering the Vikings and Justin Jefferson are coming to town, having your star CB out there is ultra important.
In eight games against Chicago, Jefferson has reeled in 50 catches for 685 receiving yards and three touchdowns. It's no secret that he's one of the best WRs in the league, and Johnson would be tasked with slowing him down.
Regardless of whether he plays, he will need to knock off some rust. No matter how good a player you are, there's nothing like getting out on the field and getting some live reps. Chicago was smart for taking the cautious approach with Johnson since it's a long season. There was no reason to rush him back when the games weren't serious, but as we are quickly approaching the season opener, it's a bit murky if he'll be out there.
There's a reason why the Bears gave Johnson a four-year, $76 million extension in April 2024. He has all the talent to be a CB1, but his statements on Tuesday make it seem that he may not be on the field on Monday.
He's doing everything in his power to be ready but there's no telling if it'll be enough.
