Ian Happ reaches 1,000 career hits, adding another milestone to one of the most underrated Cubs careers of the last decade. It may be a little difficult to believe, but Ian Happ is the longest tenured Cub. He made his professional debut in 2017 after rising through the top-prospects list to be selected ninth overall by the Cubs in the 2015 draft. It's been a long journey for Happ to still be on the Cubs in 2026.

Ian Happ's consistency has been his greatest strength

Happ survived multiple regime changes during his time on the north side. Happ's ability to produce consistent results kept his job safe, and created a consistent anchor in the dugout that the team could look to. Reaching 1,000 hits doesn't happen overnight, nor does it happen by accident. Getting this far in a career is something most professional ball players will never reach. To get this far is a testament to Happ's longevity in big-league ball.

"Just being with this team for as long as I have, wearing this uniform, representing the city and the Rickets family, the tradition that's here. The fans have given me so much here, I think that's kind of the most special part. Every day, they're here, they're supportive. To do it with one team, to do it over the course of my career here, that's what makes it really really cool. "
Ian Happ

Happ has been here a long time. There exists a large plurality of Cubs fans that simply don't know this team without him. He's a home-grown proven talent that validates all of the hard work of the Cubs scouting team. Wednesday night simply marks another way that Happ has scratched his name into the history books and Wrigley field, and in Chicago.

In 2026, Happ is still very much a part of this team's players. The Cubs have seen darker days than the season started with, but in the marathon that is the MLB season, this is only to be expected. For Ian Happ, 1,000 hits was about more than a number. It was a chance to reflect on nearly a decade wearing Cubbie Blue, and the relationships that helped make the milestone possible.
