Gervon Dexter Sr is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Chicago Bears, but that doesn't seem to be stopping him from focusing on the task at hand and improving his game. While many players can get distracted as they enter into their contract seasons, but Dexter's recent comments at the podium suggest otherwise.
That sort of external pressure can weigh heavy on a young player like Dexter when they're not certain of what the future holds. The best thing he can possibly do right now is put his head down, put in the work, and improve up what he's already built.

There's nothing like showing your bosses that your capable by showing up every day and doing the job. The most productive use of Dexter's time now is to fully utilize the resources at his disposal during Training Camp.
Dexter can't control the contract negotiations, and he can't decide on the outcome alone. What he can control is his own work ethic, attitude, and preparation. His performance is likely what will decide his fate at the end of the day anyway, there's no sense in wasting time.
"Number one, I think he's gotten better. I see more consistency, I see more ability to come off and strike the line of scrimmage. You know, I think with any of these guys, regardless of whether, contract year, no contract year, you want to go out there and see guys compete and perform at a high level. And consistently. It's easy to dismiss Dexter's comments as the normal optimism you find during Training camp. What isn't easy to dismiss is when your highly accomplished defensive coordinator is publicly praising you when directly asked about your contract. The Bears defense wasn't exactly top of the league in 2025. For Dexter to be getting better is only a good sign.
Dexter's future in Chicago will ultimately be decided by what he puts on tape this season, not the pressure surrounding his expiring contract. If Allen is right and the fourth-year defensive tackle keeps getting better, everything else may fall into place just as Dexter expects.
