Former Bears Star Shockingly Cut by AFC Contender in Week 12
By Jovan Alford
To kick off the offseason, the Chicago Bears made the shocking decision to part ways with veteran safety Eddie Jackson in February. It wasn’t a surprise to see the Bears move on, as Jackson’s play took a nosedive last season in the Windy City.
Chicago cleared $12.56 million in cap space by letting Jackson go, which likely helped them make various moves in free agency.
As for Jackson, the 30-year-old defensive back went several months before finding his next job opportunity. However, the two-time Pro Bowl defensive back found a new home in July, signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
The veteran safety made the 53-man roster out of training camp and appeared in nine games this season. But the Ravens waived Jackson on Saturday ahead of their Monday night contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, the Ravens left the veteran defender at home ahead of their Week 11 road matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson was inactive in two of the Ravens' last three games.
The former Bears defender had 30 combined tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, and a pass deflection. Jackson's pass coverage struggles continued this season in Baltimore. He possessed a 132.2 pass rating allowed when targeted (second-worst in his career) and gave up three receiving touchdowns.
The former Bears safety seems to have worn out his welcome in Baltimore as fans on social media were happy to see them move on. Once Jackson clears waivers, he'll have a chance to sign with a new team.
