The Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans don't have many ties to one another but the two franchise now appear on the list of teams to employ a certain Super Bowl winning quarterback.

After sending former Green Bay Packers signal caller Tim Boyle to the curb on Monday following a horrendous preseason debut, the Titans have picked up another former NFC North quarterback and there seems to be plenty of excitement around the signing in Nashville.

According to Titans team reporter Jim Wyatt, the franchise has elected to waive Tim Boyle in favor of Trevor Siemian. Now, the former Bears QB has the opportunity to compete against Brandon Allen for the right to be Cam Ward's primary backup.

With a rookie expected to be QB1 coming out of camp, and a journeyman behind him in Brandon Allen, bringing in a player like Siemian makes a ton of sense. The veteran has been around the block with the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and, of course, the Chicago Bears.

Siemian knows what winning and losing teams look like and will provide Ward with the knowledge he has gained throughout his time in the league. He can step in and get the job done when called upon, as well, even if the stats aren't always the prettiest. This was made evident last season when he stepped in and led the Jets to two victories in three starts.

To put it bluntly, a player trying to win a job at the quarterback position has no one to blame for being released but themselves if they are as ineffective as Boyle was this past weekend in the Titans' preseason opener. The seven-year veteran completed 4/13 attempts for 24 yards and two interceptions. He was also sacked once for a 10-yard loss.

Bad performances are not surprising when it comes to late-game preseason appearances. For a quarterback to register a rating of 0.6 is grounds to be fired, though, no matter who you are, when competing for a job at training camp.

That is the reality Siemian must be prepared for after today's news, as it was what cost Boyle his job.
